Training Description:
Our AEP Virtual Institutes build on the cultural and linguistic wealth that multilingual learners bring to the learning environment. We utilize the latest language methodologies to help teachers tap into students’ full linguistic repertoires, where language, culture and lived experiences are at the center of all learning. Our institutes help teachers create healthy and affirming partnerships with students and their families so that multilingual students can thrive. The two-day, three-hour intensives will include an emphasis upon the following:
- Helping teachers make daily pedagogical shifts that center student’s linguistic and cultural gifts
- Focusing on additive language practices to prevent language loss.
- Making use of the cultural wealth and language dexterity brought forth by multilingual learners.
- Establishing a culture of multilingualism in the classroom through translanguaging strategies.
- Understanding the various language narratives brought forth by a variety of multilingual learners such as refugees, immigrants, residents, citizens, etc.
