AEP Ethnic Studies Virtual Institutes aim to prepare and support educators to grow and nurture Ethnic Studies in their classrooms, schools, and communities. Participants of our 2-day, three-hour interactive institutes will experience Ethnic Studies pedagogy in practice through model teaching experiences, innovative educational theory that was used in the successful Mexican American Studies program in Tucson, Arizona, Legacy Youth Project in Napa, California, and other thriving Ethnic Studies programs nationwide.

Our Ethnic Studies: The Fundamentals and Funkdamentals institute will include an emphasis upon the following:
- Ethnic Studies trained teachers will build a culture in their classrooms that will support the development of student critical thought, analysis and action beyond required standards.
- Ethnic Studies trained teachers will build community among educators that embodies a collective responsibility in the development of curriculum and instruction that represents the diversity of students.
- Ethnic Studies trained teachers will identify, apply and share humanizing practices from their classroom implementation of Ethnic Studies.
- Ethnic Studies will experience model lessons and build curriculum lessons and units aligned to Ethnic Studies tenets with AEP facilitators.
